The data show little fluctuation across the Dan River at NCSR 1761. The instream ADMI units are above what is expected to be normal background conditions, (upstream and downstream). The Dan River did not experience typical low flow conditions during the summer of 1992 and during lower flow periods, potential problems associated with color will be more evident instream. Therefore, Technical Support would like to recommend a continuance of =sect sampling during the summer months only (July through October) once per week. The City of Eden should continue the existing frequency of monitoring at NCSR 1761 for one location in the middle of the River. All other monitoring requirements should remain the same. Let me know if you have any questions about this. cc: Central Files 003/26/93 09:03 V919 623 3933 EDEN UTILITIES IM 001 Facsimile Cover Sheet To: -Greg Nizich Company: NC-DEM Phone: 919-733-5083 Fax: 919-733-9919 From: - Terry Shelton Company: City of Eden, Public Utilities Department Phone: 919-627-1009 Fax: 919-623-4041 Date: 3/26/93 Pages Including this cover page: 3 Comments: This is data requested for Transecting sampling at the Berry Hill Bridge on the Dan River (NCSR 1761). Mebane Bridge NPDES Permit No. NCO025071 Draft Permit Comments I am writing in response to the comments submitted from Mr. Dennis Asbury concerning the Eden -Mebane Bridge WWTP Draft Permit. Deletion of the transect sampling requirement for color at the NCSR 1761 downstream station was considered. The transect data submitted at this station were collected during the winter months (Oct.92-Feb.'93). Although the data gathered across the river has shown little fluctuation, the information should be evaluated during low flow periods (i.e., summer months). If the facility would like to submit the additional data at the end of the summer, technical support will again re- evaluate for the discontinuance of the transect sampling. The instantaneous maximum sample for effluent color is necessary since the sampling is done by composite. This will require the maximum number determined from the samples collected in one day will be the recorded sample on the DMRs. The Mebane Bridge toxicity requirement schedule (i.e., Feb., May, Aug., and Nov.) can be changed to the Dry Creek schedule (i.e., Mar., Jun., Sep., and Dec.).
