Thank you for allowing the Lake Norman Woods HOA the opportunity to respond to the Notice of Violation,
dated March 9, 2023; received March 20, 2023. This response pertains to (2) BOD daily maximum exceedances
and subsequent monthly average exceedance, (1) NH3N daily maximum exceedance and subsequent monthly
average exceedance events that occurred during the January 2023 monitoring period.
Several BOD daily maximum exceedances and one Ammonia Nitrogen exceedance occurred during the month of
January due to various plant components being intermittently down for repair, which adversely affected the plant's
operations at the time that these violations occurred. In particular, issues with the blowers and aerators resulted in
lowered biological life in the plant, which impacted the plant's removal capabilities. In the interim, operators
conducted increased manipulation of the blower mechanisms to ensure that the plant receives adequate air. As of
February, the chlorine contact chamber was pumped down and the plant has been re -seeded. At this time, we are
pursuing options with various contractors to make permanent upgrades to the facility.
It is always the goal of the Lake Norman Woods HOA to remain in compliance with regulations set forth by the
Division of Water Resources. It is our request that our cooperation and action in these matters be taken into
account by the Division when proceeding with enforcement.
