Good morning Jennifer,
Please see the three (3) attachments. I have revised the impact maps to include notes about pumping around in case of
rain, and to include the new detail of the drainage junction with gabion. Please let me know if you would like hard
copies of these, and how many. If so, I can mail them out to you today.
Thanks,
Jonathan L. McDaniel, PE

Jennifer,
As discussed, attached is the detail showing the gabion mattress inside the drainage junctions to address
the aquatic life movement general condition. Please review and comment. If you are o.k. with this
concept, I will proceed to revise the impact maps to include this detail, and also include some
construction notes for pumping around if a rain event should occur. Just a reminder that we are not
installing a rip rap apron at the outlet because we are addressing the velocity by using flat slopes on the
pipes and having the 12" drops inside the junctions.
Thanks,
Jonathan L. McDaniel, PE

VICINITY SKETCH
NOT TO SCALE
1. Work to reroute the existing drainage shall be done during periods of dry weather.
In the event that a rainfall should occur during construction, the contractor shall
pump around'site drainage to the existing ditch north of the site to prevent any
additional impacts to the stream.
2, Stream Impact; initial disturbance of this area shall be limited to the upslope area
(on either side) minimally needed to allow construction equipment to prepare
for the installation of the drainage. Due consideration shall be given to impending
inclement weather conditions that may adversely affect the completion of the
drainage in the shortest time practicable. Grubbing or land disturbance of the
subject area shall not be performed until the culverts, backf ill material, erosion and
sediment control materials or devices sufficient to substantially complete the
construction and stabilization of the drainage are staged or stockpiled at the location.
3. Drainage work shall be completed in the minimum time necessary.
Construction Sequence;
4. No construction of the drainage for the stream impact shall commence until all
materials needed for the impact are staged on site, and the temporary darns are
installed to impede flows.
5. Establish clearing limits per approved plans. Clear and grub impact area as needed.
Immediately install the temporary dams upslope of the stream impact and to the
east side of the existing 24" RCP. Temporary seed and mulch disturbed area. Do not
clear or disturb any unpermitted areas.
6. Install drainage. Fill, compact and finish grade area.
7. Install permanent ground cover (sod) on slopes near the heodwalf and 42" RCP outlet.
& Install silt fence at toe of fill slope and as needed to prevent erosion.
9. See the construction plans for additional details.
10. See wetlands permit for additional requirements.

1. The purpose of the gabion mattress is to meet the aquatic life passage requirement
for the stream impact. The gabion is to be installed at the same time as the
junction manhole.
2. The gabion mattress is to consist of rip rap with a e maximum diameter. The wire
mesh to encase the rip rap shall have 3" x 3" openings, and be corrosion resistant
meeting ASTM 974-97.
3. The gabion shall be installed flush to the 12" drop invert, and sloped at 5 :1 to the
bottom of the junction manhole.
4. Install the wire mesh with a minimum overlap of 12", and secure overlap with plastic
