►I Engineering Alternatives Analysis (EAA)
• Connection to POTW — Prohibited by sewer use ordinance.
• Land Application (Spray or Dip Irrigation) — Technically infeasible. Dependent on land availability.
• Infiltration Galleries — Technically infeasible. Dependent on land availability.
• Closed-Loop or In-Situ Groundwater Remediation Wells — Technically infeasible. The long-term goal
is to create a hydraulic barrier to prevent the spill from moving further away from the site.
• Pump & Haul with approximately 115 trucks 24 hours per day — approximately $596 million
• Surface water discharge (NPDES permit) — approximately $23 million.

Groundwater Remediation
• What Is Pump and Treat? Groundwater is
Holding pumped from wells or trenches to an
Tank aboveground treatment system that removes
Clean Water the contaminants. Pump and treat systems also
M: e mehelp keeps the contaminant plume from
spreading by pumping contaminated water
toward the wells. Prevents contaminants from
Groundwater reaching drinking water wells, wetlands,
Extraction Well streams and other natural resources.
