Mark Brambell wants to convert pond 2 on the plan shown to an infiltration basin. We would like to set up a time next week other than Thursday to submit, if possible. Also we have another project we would like to discuss, it is a the border between SA and non -SA waters, I am providing an aerial and the SA waters map from DENR. I have also looked at the distance it is pretty consistent with the map. Let us know of a time to discuss both projects Thanks Tim Tim Clinkscales PE, PLS ',PARA-MOUNTE l - ,] , N Y: . 1. 1. ,l , N 1. The site is located within The Reserve at St James Plantation off of NC Hwy 211 and will be modified with one of the wet detention ponds being converted to an infiltration basin. The project is within a drainage basin that drains to Beaverdam Creek (SC;SW,HQW). The stormwater will be conveyed through a stormdrainage system and treated in a wet detention pond and infiltration trench per high density design criteria. In conjunction with this, they will be designed to meet the Brunswick County Storm Water Ordinance. This project will not have any wetland impacts and all permit applications for the whole development have been submitted to the necessary agency for review and approval. DESCRIPTION OF ACTIVITIES AND FINDINGS As requested, our staff visited the site on January 8, 2014, to perform infiltration testing and estimate the seasonal high watertable at one location identified by you. The purpose of this testing was to provide soil parameters for stormwater infiltration design. Seasonal High Watertable Estimate A hand auger boring was advanced at one location to a depth of approximately 10 feet below the existing ground surface in the area where the stromwater infiltration pond was currently being excavated. Our boring was advanced on top of the berm that divides the two bays. The encountered soils were logged and visually classified by depth and a Munsell Soil Color Chart was used to determine the hue, value, and chroma of the visually distinct soil layers. Our soil log is presented in Table 1. Soils encountered in our boring consist of interbedded clean fine sands through the boring termination depth with no distinct zones of soil cementation in the profile. Based on our experience with similar soils and comparisons of the soil coloration to the Munsell Chart, it is our opinion that seasonal high water table level occurs approximately 8.5 feet below the top of the dividing bens (approximate elevation of 20.5') and appears to be about 3 feet lower than the BMW elevation. A measurement made 1 hour after angering indicate depths to standing water in the boreholes of 119 below the existing ground surface. The permeameter is used to determine field saturated hydraulic conductivity in centimeters per second for soil at a specified depth. This testing involves advancing a borehole to the desired infiltration depth and introducing water at a constant head to determine the steady state flow rate from which the hydraulic conductivity can be calculated. The results of our permeameter testing are presented in Table 2. RECOMMENDATIONS Based on the results of our field testing and soil classifications at the test location, we offer the following recommendations for stormwater infiltration design: At.the test location INP-1 it is our opinion that in order to achieve the steady state now rate obtained during our testing; the areas of infiltration galleries or other infiltration structure should introduce stormwater at approximately 30 inches below the existing ground surface elevation. For purposes of sizing the structures we recommend an ultimate application rate of 6.9 inches per hour. These recommendations should be reviewed by appropriate regulatory authorities before Finalizing the details of any civil design. Please find attached our field data and a sketch showing the approximate test locations. If you have any questions after reviewing this letter, please do not hesitate to contact us at your convenience. Sincerely, RFTS,PLLC David L. Winstead Steven D. Ily, P.E.
