Project Description: Replace pipe (P-460) on SR 1007 (Brogden Road) over Bawdy Creek
(no off-site detour specified in review request).
SUMMARY OF HISTORIC ARCHITECTURE AND LANDSCAPES REVIEW
DEscRIPTIONOFREVIEWACTIVITIES,RESULTS,AND coNcLUszoNs: HPOWeb reviewed on 1 March
2021 and yielded no NR, SL, LD, DE, or SS properties in the Area of Potential Effects (APE).
Johnston County current GIS mapping, aerial photography, and tax information reveals a rural,
predominantly undeveloped and wooded APE with few above-ground residential resources
(viewed 1 March 2021). Large parcels intersected by the APE to the NW and SW of P-460
contain, respectively, a circa 2000 house and a circa-1930 house, both standing well outside the
APE. The latter is an unexceptional and altered examples of its type. The previously recorded
Atkinson-Creech House (JT0725) is located to the west of and outside the APE, and the National
Register-listed Shiloh Primitive Baptist Church (JT0948) is also outside of, but just east of the
APE. No staging or storage of construction equipment and materials should occur within the NR
boundary of the church property (see attached). Google Maps"Street View"confirmed the
absence of critical architectural or landscape resources in the APE (viewed 1 March 2021).
No architectural survey is required for the project as currently defined.
WHY THE AVAILABLE INFORMATION PROVIDES A RELIABLE BASIS FOR REASONABLY PREDICTING THAT
THERE ARE NO UNIDENTIFIED SIGNIFICANT HISTORIC ARCHITECTURAL OR LANDSCAPE RESOURCES IN
THE PROJECTAREA: APE extends 500 feet east and west of P-460 and 100 feet to either side of
the SR 1007 (Brogden Road) centerline (N-S). The comprehensive county architectural survey
and update (1980; 2003-2004), as well as later studies, record no resources in the APE apart
from those noted above. County GIS/tax materials and other visuals support the absence of
significant architectural and landscape resources in the APE. No National Register-listed
properties are located within the APE.
Should any aspect of the project design change, please notify
NCDOT Historic Architecture as additional review may be necessary.
