Hanes Mill Rd, Suite 300 Winston-Salem, North Carolina 27105 336-776-9800 Subject: Compliance Evaluation Inspection & Notice of Violation NOV Tracking#: NOV-2023-PC-0065 Zooland Family Campground WWTP NPDES Permit #: NC0089052 3671 Pisgah Covered Bridge Road Asheboro, NC 27205 Rojeana McDonald, Back-up ORC Grade 4 = 27833 Subsurface = 1004645 Laboratory Analyst Class 1 Dear Jessie Barnes, Inspection at Zooland Family Campground WWTP on January 26, 2023 found: PERMIT VIOLATIONS: For Dissolved Oxygen, pH and Temperature have been using Alan Gaddis (Field Cert# 5664). Therefore; all field parameters for Effluent, Upstream and Downstream should be considered valid under his field certification until Zooland gets its own field certification. Permit Violation Part I, Section A.: 1) BOD 5-day, Total Suspended Solids, NH3 as N and Fecal Coliform are all analyzed by Pace Analytical (lab Cert # 633). Permit Violation Part II, Section D. 4.: 1) Field parameters will be analyzed using Alan Gaddis (lab cert #5664). ITEMS OF CONCERN: 1. New Owners did not renew contact with AG Environmental therefore Zooland WWTP's Effluent discharge was shut down due to no ORC or Back-up ORC. The Septic tanks were pumped so no flow went through the WWTP from December 28, 2022 to January 8, 2023. Only a total of (7) septic loads were pumped out of septic system during this time. On December 28, 2022 (4) loads were pumped and on January 6, 2023 (3) loads were pumped from septic system. This allowed for no flow to be treated or discharged to Outfall 001 to protect surface waters. Attached are copies of the receipts. 2. The # 2 UV light disinfection system was out of service at inspection due to Effluent valve leaking. A new valve was installed on 11/23/2022. The valve started leaking again on 12/17/2022 therefore; Influent and Effluent valves were closed on that #2 UV. The valves do not last like they used too. A new valve has been installed on March 3, 2023 and #2 UV is back in service, therefore both UV systems are operating since this time. 3. Any time the Effluent Flow meter was cleaned and calibrated it was recorded in the log book. The last time flow meter was cleaned and calibrated was May 24, 2022. Attached is a copy of calibration from log book. There were 3 previous years of flow meter calibrations but were imbedded in the log books. I will make a separate log book that documents the yearly flow meter calibration so they will be easier to locate during next inspection. In Conclusion: We are working on some of the corrections needed in the inspection and have corrected items of concern.
