Dear Mr. Parker:
Aqua North Carolina,Inc. (Aqua)offers the following response for the above-referenced Notice of Violation and
Notice of Recommendation for Enforcement,which was issued October 23,2013,for Total Suspended Solids
(TSS)daily maximum exceedance on July 23,2013 and a TSS monthly average exceedance on July 31,2013.
Response:
Aqua has increased the duration of the backwash/regeneration cycle for each filter. We are also.following the
instructions provided by your office regarding the proper method and timing for collecting the sample. This
NPDES permit requires that TSS is collected,but it also has a limit. The filters located at both community water
supply wells in Oakley Park are designed to remove naturally occurring iron and manganese present in each well.
Aqua has had discussions with DENR regarding the rule that impacts this and the other Notice of Violations
issued for Oakley Park WTP.
