SUB3ECT: NCDOT request far a CAMA permit for improvernents at the Sat�. �auci Ferry,
Bertie County.
We have reviewed the infarmatio:n included in the package receive�. from the Division of Coasial
Managert�ent. Our comfnents are provide�. in accordance with provisions oithe Fzsla and
Wildlife Coardination Act {48 Stat. 401, as amended; 16 U.S.C. 661 et. seq.) and the Coastal
.Axea Management Act (G.S. 113A-lOQ through � �3A-128}.
We do not object to the issuance o�the CAMA permit for this p�roject provided that the following
conditions are included in �he CAMA Pez�znit:
1. All riprap placed in-water should be free of pollutants ar�d soil.
2. Turbidity curtair�s should be used to cantain all bottozn disturbing activities, including
pile or casEment driv�nglvibrating/jetting, placemezzt of riprap, ea�cavation or fi�ling.
Excessive silt az�d sediment loads can have ntunero�s detrirnental eifects on aq�atac
resources including destruction of spawning habitat, suffocation of eggs, and clogging of
gills of aquatic species.
3. As agreed �or this project NCDOT shauld adhere to an in water woz'k moratorium of
February i 5 to June I.
NCDOT fs expected use Best Mariagement P:ractices fiar the protection o� SurFace Waiers and
Sedimentation and Erasion Control measttx'es sufficient to protect the aquatic resources.
