Byron and Randy,
While at Mitigation Site 2 on March 26 with Dave Bailey (USACE) and Jerry Parker (DOT), we were informed by David
Flowers (Blythe) that there is interest in diverting stream flow into the newly restored channel. We walked the entire
channel and overall it appeared to be stable with some grass establishment along the floodplain. The most downstream
section near the where the stream will be piped (Station 23+17) was flooded. Overall the channel looked stable but I
would like to see more vegetated cover in the flood plain area.
There was an area of concern in one cross vane structure (sorry did not get the station number) and other concerns
throughout the project upstream of the mitigation site related to sediment and erosion control that need to be
addressed as soon as possible and before the stream is diverted to its new channel.
• The rock cross vane structure in question is located in the upper section. It needs leveling to maintain flow
within the center of the structure (see attached picture);
• As you can observe from the turbid conditions in the attached pictures there was a storm event the previous
evening. Erosion and sediment control measures in the area upstream of and that drain to the stream
mitigation channel need to be improved. The basins seem to be in working order but the V-ditch, drainage
channels and slopes need to be stabilized and ground cover utilized.
Once these issues have been addressed, DWR would like to discuss the project further and visit the site again.
