Comment: I met with Div 11 DEO and project mgr on site (Kevin Hining and Bobby Harmon) to investigatethe
project following a complaint the previous day. The issue was sediment/turbidity discharges to Watauga
River following an storm event on the previous Friday evening. We reveiwed all SDOs and found them
to be well maintained. The ditchline along the westbound lane was under repair including several rock
checks. Sediment discharges from the SDOs were non existent. Some light sediment was noted on the
westbound lane but little if any travelled across NC 105 to the river. One small area along the river bank
appeared to have acculuated some sediment. DOT sent a person to check and there was about 1 . alb
of material of which was likely river sediment from a recent flood event. One portion of a bridge bent
was built. Site 1 was protected from equipment including the culvert inlet. This site would soon be
filled and a new pipe installed. Culvert Sites 3 - 5 were built per the plans.
