Avoid contact with toxic algal blooms/large accumulations of the algae; prevent children and pets from swimming or ingesting water. In and around the Albemarle Sound; Chowan River. Blooms have turned up in waters in Bertie, Chowan, Herford, Perquimans and Washington Counties. Chowan River near Indian Creek; Note: Blooms are more common during late summer due to war water temperatures and stagnant bodies of water. Because toxicity levels can change rapidly over time and location, it is best to stay away from all blooms whenever possible.
