Town of Hertford WWTP
NCO021849
- Hertford has applied for permit renewal for their 0.4 MGD facility. Over the past two years the facility
has been in compliance. Also, total phosphorous has averaged less than 1 mg/l.
- The receiving stream, Perquimans River, is classified as C-Swamp
- An ambient station 1 mile downstream of the outfall at SR 1336 shows no DO problems over the past
two years. One DO value of 4.6 mg/l was recorded 4/89, but the history of the station indicates that this
is not unusual and is not associated with high BOD concentrations. See below.
- Chlorine levels in the effluent are too high, as much as 1.1 mg/l.
- Effluent from this facility is highly diluted by the Perquimans River. From this and the good condition
of the downstream ambient station it is clear that the existing limits will protect water quality in the
Perquimans River.
