1984: proposed with Secondary Limits, (200 / 100 ml fecal coliforn) recommended
1989: renewed w/ same limits; discharge pipe approximately 150' into lake at bottom, (Staff Report indicated no WO problems)
DMR's
Flows seems to indicate that facility is seasonal, (i.e. summer flows much higher than winter)
Residual chlorine levels are excessively high Otherwise, conventional parameters are well under Permitted levels.
Staff Report
Recommends schedule for facility to meet 15 / 4 in two years... I don't think we will have the justification to do this for an existing
discharge not requesting any changes to their Permit.

10. Receiving Stream or Affected Surface Waters: Lake Norman
(Mountain Creek arm)
a_ Classification: WS-IV, B
b: River Basin and Subbasin No.: Catawba 030832
C. Describe receiving stream features• and pertinent
downstream uses: The receiving stream is actually
water supply reservoir whose levels are regulated by a
electrical utility company (Duke Power Company). The
reservoir is used extensively for primary and secondary
recreation with frequent bodily contact. One other
known discharger exists just upstream of this facility
(NC0064599).
PART II - DESCRIPTION OF DISCHARGE AND TREATMENT WORKS
1. a. Volume of Wastewater: 0.0125 MGD (Design Capacity)
b. What is the current permitted capacity: 0.0125 MGD
C. Actual treatment capacity of current facility (current
design capacity): 0.0125 MGD
d. Date(s) and construction activities allowed by previous
ATCs issued in the previous two years: N/A
e. Description of existing or substantially constructed
WWT facilities: The existing WWT facilities consist of
dual aeration basins and clarifiers connected in series
followed by a chlorine contact tank, a flow measuring
device, an aerated sludge holding tank and a stand-by
power generator.
f. Description of proposed WWT facilities: N/A
g. Possible toxic impacts to surface waters: Chlorine is
added to the waste stream.
h. Pretreatment Program (POTWs only): Not Needed.
2. Residual handling and utilization/disposal scheme: Residuals
removed from this system are used to "seed" other Mid South
WWTPs or taken to the City of Newton for disposal.
3. Treatment Plant Classification: Less than 5 points; no
rating (include rating sheet). Class II

PART III - OTHER PERTINENT INFORMATION
1. Is this facility being constructed with Construction Grant
Funds or are any public monies involved (municipals only)?
2. Special monitoring or limitations (including toxicity)
requests: Typically, all new or expanding WWT facilities.
(treating domestic wastewater) that discharge into water
supply reservoirs In this region receive BPj effluent
limitations (15--BOD,, 4-NH, as N). It has also been our
policy to recommend'BPJ limitations be added to existing
facilities during the Permit renewal process with a schedule
for implementation should existing facilities not be capable
of immediate compliance. It is recommended that this Permit
be renewed containing BPJ limitations to be phased in two
(2) years after Permit reissuance.
3. Important SOC/JOC or Compliance Schedule dates: N/A
4. Alternative Analysis Evaluation
a. Spray Irrigation: Insufficient area.
b: Connect to regional sewer system: None available.
C. Subsurface: Insufficient area.
d, Other disposal options: N/A
PART IV - EVALUATION AND RECOM.MENDa_T I OINS
The permittee requests renewal of the subJect Permit. There
have been no changes and\n,- modifications since the Permit .-72S
last renewed. Additional WWT facilities may be necessary in order
t_n_ n_n_mply with the BPj limitations that Will become effective two
(2) years after Permit rei.-Su nce_
It is recommended that the Permit (containing the revised
effluent limitation noted above) be renewed as requested:
