The purpose of the evaluation was to verify that the facility is operating in compliance with the conditions and limitations specified in Permit WQ0002005. Mason Drew and Chris Murray were present during the inspection. This facility is a facultative lagoon wastewater treatment and irrigation system. Currently, the facility treats a little less than half of the 800,000 gpd flow limit. Influent from the House of Raeford process plant and hatchery flows through a Dissoved Ail Flotation (DAF) unit before entering 2 lagoons, in -series. From the second lagoon, wastewater is pumped approximately 2.5 miles to the 35 MG storage pond. The irrigation system consists of 137 acres of spray fields served by a traveling bridge center -pivot and solid -set system. There was a scum layer present on the primary lagoon, contained adjacent to the DAF end of the lagoon. This surface layer has been removed mechanically in the past. Solids have never been dredged from the bottom of the lagoons. It might be advantageous to measure the accumulation of settled solids to determine if removal would be necessary for more lagoon capacity. Freeboard for the primary lagoon was 31" and the secondary lagoon was 46" on inspection day. A review of monitoring reports since last inspection in August 2021 shows no NDMR/NDAR violations. Some of the monitoring wells located around the lagoons continue to have limit exceedances for Ammonia and TDS. These trends will be evaluated during the renewal process this year. The permit expires on 10/31/2023. A renewal application is due 6 months prior to the expiration. The facility is compliant with Non -Discharge Permit WQ0002005. Please review the comment sections of the inspection report for more details.
