A, Structure Design Conference Room Purposes: • Evaluate the changes in coastal conditions (shoreline position, dune stability, habitat) that resulted from Hurricane Irene; • Identify issues, constraints, and concerns associated with the future maintenance of NC 12; and • Provide engineering advice on design parameters for long-term transportation options at the two breach sites. Expected Outcomes: • Identification of changes to the project area as a result of Hurricane Irene; • Evaluation of how changes to the project area impact area habitat; • Evaluation of previous project area studies; • Recommendations on design parameters for long-term options at both breach sites; and • Recommendations on how NCDOT should conduct future coastal studies in the project area. Monday, October 24, 1:OOpm-S:OOpm 1:00 Welcome and Introductions 1:10 Purpose of Meeting 1:30 Overview of Bonner Bridge Replacement Project studies • General project description • Coastal conditions/ shoreline erosion analyses • Natural resources assessment • Alternatives developed • Summary of NC 12 repairs following Hurricane Irene 2:00 Panel Discussion- Post-Irene Project Area Conditions • What are the main changes to the project area? • What aspects of the storm caused these changes? • What are the long-term implications to the project area? • How do these changes impact habitat within the Pea Island National Wildlife Refuge? Breaks will be incorporated during this session as needed. 1 A-1 Tuesday, October 25, 8:30am-S:OOpm 8:30 Recap of Monday's session; Review Tuesday Agenda 8:45 Panel Discussion- Potential Long-term Options for Pea Island breach site • Coastal engineering recommendations on breach performance o Appropriate study area for Pea Island breach site • Possible Long-term options: bridging, fill/pave, beach nourishment, etc. Panel Discussion- Potential Long-term Options for Rodanthe breach site • Coastal engineering recommendations on breach performance o Appropriate study area for Rodanthe site • Possible Long-term options: bridging, fill/pave, beach nourishment, etc. LUNCH (onsite) 1:00 Panel Discussion- Potential Long-term Options, continued 3:00 Panel Discussion- Recommendations on Future Coastal Studies for Project Area • Summary of current NCDOT coastal monitoring program • Summary of expected permit conditions • What additional data sources/ research should be considered as part of future coastal studies? • Are there similar studies of coastal areas that can inform NCDOT's future work? 4:00 Summarize Overall Recommendations/ Meeting Wrap-up Breaks will be incorporated during the morning and afternoon sessions as needed. 2 A-2
