This plan is based on NC NRCS Conservation Practice Standard "Waste Facility Closure", Code 360, dated April 2012. Name of Structure Being Closed: Lagoon B Site Map: See attached site map for location of structure, known utilities, and other site specific details. Waste Removal: Liquid and slurry waste shall be agitated and pumped to the maximum extent practicable. This lagoon currently has less than an average of 6" of liquid on top of the sludge. This liquid will be incorporated into the sludge and can then be dipped out. Sludge Removal: Sludge shall be removed to the maximum extent practicable. Due to very little liquid in the lagoon, the sludge may be dipped out and the bottom of the lagoon scraped. The total volume of sludge to be removed is estimated to be approximately 6000 cu ft, and since it is such a small volume, it can be placed in the larger lagoon at this farm until sludge removal is needed from that lagoon. Waste Utilization: Since the removed sludge will be placed in the larger existing lagoon, a Sludge Utilization Plan is not needed. Closure Method: Backfill impoundment such that it may be reclaimed for other uses. All pipes and other structural materials in the lagoon shall be removed and disposed of properly. The berms may be used as backfill material. The top one foot of backfill should consist of soil material readily available, graded such that it does not impound water, and be suitable for establishment of vegetation.
