o Dredge Volume (estimated yards3): 17,000 cubic ,
o Current Depth at NLW: -2l' to -36'
o Proposed final depth after dredging (NLW): -36' + -2' overdredge
Has Work started already?
o When did the work start? December 23, 2022
o Cause of delay? Broken Pump and replacement seal took a few days to obtain and
install.
How long is needed to complete the work? 2 additional weeks (until March 1, 2023
What is the method of dredging? Hydraulic dredging (cutter suction) is the primary method of dredging to
be used. Mechanical dredging (clamshell bucket) may be used in areas where buried timber inhibits
hydraulic dredging.
What is the sediment type? The sediment is primarily fines (silt and clay) and some sand. No gravel is
present.
Location of Spoil Site? Confined disposal site directly across the Cape Fear River from the proposed
dredge area. The site is located in Brunswick County at Parcel No. 05900006 and at coordinates located at
approximately 34.176788,-77.963510. Refer to the attached location maps.
Are the waters of the spoil site open or closed? The CDF is closed, however it does drain into the River.
Any history of dredge relief on this or former permits? Moratorium relief was requested on Januar�6,
2022 due to contractor delays from equipment shortages_
Can a turbidity curtain be used in the area? It is not practical to use a turbidity curtain around the dredging
area due to high depths and currents. We are adhering to the approved sampling plan to monitor turbidity
and control discharge from the CDF.
