Facility Summary
Ridge Haven, Inc. operates a summer camp and retreat for an estimated 750 campers with a private, closed
collection system that sends 100% domestic wastewater to the Ridge Haven WWTP nearby. The Ridge
Haven WWTP is a minor facility (flow < 1 MGD) with a design capacity and permitted wastewater
discharge of 0.0163. The WWTP was constructed in July 2017 and operational in August 2017. This facility
utilizes the following treatment components:
• Manual bar screen
• Flow equalization basin
• Two (2) equalization basin pumps and a blower
• Flow splitter box
• Two (2) aeration basins with diffusers
• Two (2) secondary clarifiers
• Two (2) tertiary filters
• Two (2) backwash pumps
• Tertiary filter blower
• Post -aeration basin
• Mud well with two (2) pumps

Renewal Summary
This renewal contains the following changes:
• Updated the Supplement to Cover Sheet with the specific treatment components that were
installed/constructed and removed the language referencing the Authorization to Construct, as this
facility is fully built and operational as of 2017.
• Added the facility grade to Section A. (1.).
• Updated the effluent table in Section A. (1.) with eDMR parameter codes.
• Added effluent monitoring for turbidity to the table in Section A. (1.) to determine compliance with
15A NCAC 02B.0211 (21) for Trout waters.
• Added effluent monitoring for dissolved oxygen to the table in Section A. (1.) to determine
compliance with 15A NCAC 02B.0211 (6) for Trout waters.
• Added instream monitoring for temperature to the table in Section A. (1.) to determine compliance
with 15A NCAC 02B.0211 (18) for Trout waters.
• Updated Section A. (2) to reflect current federal requirements for Electronic Reporting of
Discharge Monitoring Reports.
Compliance History
Ridge Haven WWTP has only one enforcement on record for BOD limit violations in July 2021. The
facility has been issued six NOVs for Fecal, TRC and BOD limit violations since the permit was originally
issued in March 2016
Most recent inspection (August 2017) showed the facility to be in compliance.

Quick Correction to the draft permit (see updated copy attached):
-The Temperature footnote is being removed after internal staff discussion concluded that a
discharge from a 100% domestic system was not considered a "heated liquid" as described in the
rule. Instream monitoring is still being required.
