Mr. Boss,

The Town of Waynesville wastewater treatment plant was found to be in violation of the SOC
for the month of December 2022. Upon review of the data, it was found that we were out of
compliance for the weekly TSS, monthly TSS, weekly BOD, and monthly BOD. This was due to
extreme cold weather causing mechanical issues in our secondary clarifiers. We had several
breaks in the electrical and mechanical process of the clarifier. This with the accompanying
higher flows, due to rain and snow, caused the secondary clarifiers to not settle properly. We are
making every effort to stay proactive on the maintenance of the secondary clarifiers. Should you
