In a letter dated January 12, 2023 1 reported that the Perdue Foods Feedmill In Eagle
Springs had received its fourth benchmark exceedance on TSS from the lab sample results
received on January 4, 2023. This letter is a follow up with the action plan as required in Section
E-7, Table 5, item vi of our Stormwater Discharge Permit.
Upon receiving the lab results on January 4t"- I immediately contacted my regional
environmental manager Robert Morgan to discuss our next steps in reducing our TSS levels for
our 002 Outfall. Robert suggested that I purchase and install a pipe sediment filter sock into the
stormwater water entrance end of the pipe, opposite of the end where I collect the samples.
This pipe filter sock is in addition to the silt fences and socks that I have already installed along
the ditch line where the stormwater flows. In addition to those steps I also stopped mowing the
stormwater ditches last summer to get some natural filtration with the taller grasses. Robert
also asked that I notify Mr. Michael Lawyer with DEQ of our fourth exceedance. While on the

phone with him, Robert suggested that I also ask Mr. Lawyer for ideas on how we can control
our TSS levels.
On January 11th I spoke with Mr. Lawyer about the TSS issue we are having. Mr. Lawyer
and I reviewed the specifics of our outfall 002. Mr. Lawyer first concern was that the
stormwater samples are being collected before comingling with our boiler blowdown ditch
water. I confirmed that the stormwater samples are being collected prior to entering the boiler
blowdown ditch. Another opportunity we discussed was the short distance the stormwater
travels from sheet flowing off the gravel/dirt parking area to the designated collection point.
With the collection point being so close sediment has very little time to fall out before being
collected for the stormwater lab sample. At the conclusion of our conversation, Mr. Lawyer
agreed that other than paving the truck parking area that the sediment sock filter and any other
sediment filters installed would be a good option.
Since speaking with Mr. Lawyer I have added the pipe sediment sock filter. I have also
had Robert Morgan on site to inspect the outfall 002 stormwater ditch and all the sediment
filtration systems that have been installed. Currently Robert does not have any more
suggestions on how to control the TSS.
Please review the action items that I discussed above. If there are more suggestions on
ways to reduce my TSS levels please let me know. In the meantime, we will continue to follow
the Tier III guidelines until we have 3 consecutive months where our test results fall below the
required benchmarks.
