Hi Tom and Hannah,
After a discussion with the assistant resident and Mason regarding the subject project and we are
proposing a change to the flood plain benches that are shown on the inlet and outlet ends of the
Site 2 culvert on the subject project. The Site 2 culvert is the double barrel culvert at approximately
Sta. 24+50. There is a concern that if the benches are constructed out of native material (and coir
fiber matting) the material may move or erode during a rain event. We are proposing that they be
constructed using Class 1 riprap.
I have attached 2 permit drawings sheets from the permit for the project. On sheet 3, I have
sketched (in green) the area where rip rap is proposed. I didn’t make any notes on sheet 4, but
included it for reference.
Please let me know your thoughts regarding this proposal or if you need additional information.
I hope we will have time to visit this site (after the NC 24 Living Shoreline project) next Wednesday
(February 1) during our Onslow ride through day.
Thanks,
Anneliese
