Sediment traps should not be placed in Waters of the State or USGS blue -line streams (unless approved by Federal Authorities). 2. The rock outlet structure shall consist of 12-inch D50 riprap. The upstream face of this outlet shall consist of a 1-foot thick layer of 1-inch D50 washed stone. The maximum steepness of the rock outlet structure shall be 2:1. 3. Both the rock outlet and the stone apron shall have an underlying layer of non -woven geotexti le filter fabric. 4. All internal side slopes of the sediment trap should be 2.5:1 or flatter. 5. A sediment cleanout stake should be installed and marked to remove sediment at 50% of the sediment storage volume. 7. After construction of each sediment trap, the area disturbed to construct the trap should be promptly stabilized, including all side slopes. 8. All sides of trap shall be matted and seeded. 9. The following sediment trap requirements shall be maintained: - Maximum embankment height shall be 5-feet. - Maximum riprap outlet height shall be 3.5-feet. - Minimum flow length at top of riprap outlet shall be 5-feet. INSPECTION AND MAINTENANCE 1. The key to a functional sediment trap is weekly inspections, routine maintenance and regular sediment removal. 2. Attention to sediment accumulations within the trap is extremely important. Accumulated sediment deposition should be continually monitored in the trap and removed when necessary. 3. Remove accumulated sediment when it reaches 50% of the designed sediment storage volume as marked by the cleanout stake. 4. Removed sediment from the trap shall be placed in stockpile storage areas or spread thinly across the disturbed area. Stabilize the removed sediment after it is relocated. 5. Regular inspections of sediment traps should be conducted once every calendar week and, as recommended and within 24-hours after each rainfall event that produces'/2-inch or more of precipitation. 6. Disturbed areas resulting from the removal of the sediment trap should be permanently stabilized and additional BMPs, such as silt fence, should be utilized to handle stormwater runoff from this disturbed area until final stabilization is reached. INSPECTIONS MAY BE NEEDED TO BE MORE FREQUENT DURING LONG PERIODS OF WET WEATHER. 2. THE ENTRANCE SHALL BE MAINTAINED IN A CONDITION THAT WILL PREVENT TRACKING OR FLOWING OF SEDIMENT ONTO PUBLIC RIGHT-OF-WAYS. THIS MAY REQUIRE TOP DRESSING, REPAIR AND/OR CLEAN OUT OF ANY MEASURES USED TO TRAP SEDIMENT. 4. WHEN NECESSARY, WHEELS SHALL BE CLEANED PRIOR TO ENTRANCE ONTO PUBLIC RIGHT-OF-WAY, 5. IMMEDIATELY REMOVE ANY MUD OR SEDIMENT TRACKED ONTO ADJACENT IMPERVIOUS SURFACES BY BRUSHING OR SWEEPING. FLUSHING SHOULD ONLY BE USED WHEN THE WATER IS DIRECTED TO A SEDIMENT TRAP OR BASIN. 6. MINIMUM SPACING 5 FT. MAXIMUM SPACING DOUBLE ROW OF SILT FENCE Seeding Specifications: Permanent seed mixes should be applied at the time of temporary seeding and must be applied prior to the installation of erosion control matting. For erosion control along cut and fill slopes use erosion control matting, flexterra, or hydroseeding. Drill seeding is the preferred seeding technique. If slopes do not allow for safe application of drill seeding than broadcast seed or hydroseed. If hydroseeding apply seed mix with 500 lbs. per/acre of hydro mulch with seed and then apply second coat of hydro mulch at 1,000Ibs. per/acre as a top coat. Permanent seed mixes shall only be applied in the spring or the fall. If the permanent seed mix cannot be applied within 10 days of finish grading or after spring or fall, a temporary cover crop seeding can be applied but all existing vegetation must be removed from the areas to be seeded prior to the application of the permanent seed mixes and the soil must be prepared. Prepare cut and fill slopes so there is good seed to soil contact add 1/8"-1/4" layer of stockpiled topsoil whenever possible. For areas with slopes less than 3:1, cover the seed 1/8"-1/4" deep with topsoil (stockpiled topsoil from the site) by dragging with a spring -tooth harrow or by firmly pressing seed into the soil with a cultipacker or lawn roller. For areas with slopes steeper than 3:1, final tracking should be perpendicular to the slope to retain seeds and moisture. Incorporate topsoil (stockpiled) into the soil in a manner that will leave the soil rough and minimize erosion. Apply erosion control matting, mulch with straw or hydromulch to protect the seed immediately after seeding to keep the seeds from drying out or washing away Add lime and fertilizer only where no topsoil remains or where topsoil cannot be reapplied due to slope.
