Thank you for transmitting the archaeological fieldwork proposal for the above -referenced undertaking that
we received on January 17, 2023. We have reviewed this proposal that meets our standards and those of the
Department of the Interior and offer the following comments.
This office concurs with the project as proposed. The proposal has also been considered adequate by our
cemetery specialist, provided that the plan will adhere to the NC cemetery removal guidelines outlined in
General Statutes 65-106. We also concur that a GPR survey would be ineffective in ascertaining whether or
not additional graves are located at or near 31JN251 and will allow exploratory mechanical trenching as an
alternative to a GPR survey.
Please provide one paper copy and one digital copy (PDF) of the resulting archaeological report generated
to be submitted for review.
The above comments are made pursuant to Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act and the
Advisory Council on Historic Preservation's Regulations for Compliance with Section 106 codified at 36
CFR Part 800.
