Dear Mr. McRee:
Attached to this letter please find a copy of the Compliance Inspection Report form for the
inspection conducted on January 20, 2023. The Compliance Inspection was conducted by Randy
Sipe and Robert Tankard of the Water Quality Regional Operations Section, Washington Regional
Office. Also present and providing assistance during the inspection were Rod Holley (Backup
ORC) and Bryan Allen, both with Currituck County.
During the inspection, all the wastewater treatment and disposal components of the facility
described in Permit No. WQ0000185 were toured. The inspection also included a review of
reports/recordkeeping.
At the time of the inspection, the mechanical barscreen serving the treatment system was not
operational, as was the case during the previous inspection on July 28, 2021. Also, the chain flight
systems in the primary clarifiers at treatment trains 1 and 3 were broken making the two clarifiers
inoperable. Because these treatment units were inoperable at the time of the inspection the facility
is considered non -compliant with Permit No. WQ0000185.
As a result of the continued non-compliance at this facility, Currituck County shall provide the
Washington Regional Office with a schedule of when the repair of these treatment units will be
completed within ten (10) days of receipt of this letter. Also, Currituck County shall notify the
Washington Regional Office when the repairs are complete, and the treatment units are operational
so that a follow up inspection may be performed.
