RE: Notice of Violation for the Laurel Road WTP- Permit Number NCO086975
Dear Mr. Tharrington:
Carteret County received last week a Notice of Violation and Intent to Assess Civil Penalty from your office.
Carteret County has studied and has several potential solutions to remedy this violation, with that being said
the County is also in the process of selling this system and has been for the last year. Currently, the sale,
which we believed would be complete by now, is being reviewed by the North Carolina Utilities Commission.
We have an asset purchase agreement in place with Carolina Water Service.
We would request an extension to the time frame for assessment of Civil Penalties until we have a chance to
complete the process with the North Carolina Utilities Commission to either sell the system or implement the
selected solution to remedy the violation.
I placed a call earlier today to Tyler Benson in your office to discuss this as directed in your letter. I would
enjoy the opportunity to discuss this with you or your staff in an effort to bring this to conclusion. My number in
