Description of Treatment Process:
This facility is located on Tot Dellinger Road just outside the city limits. The Plant is an
activated sludge plant designed to treat 2.0 MGD - million gallons per day. The facility
consist of a bar screen, grit removal, dual oxidation ditches, dual secondary clarifiers, chlorine
disinfection and de -chlorination system, flow measurement, cascade aeration, aerated sludge
holding tank, sludge storage lagoon, and sludge drying beds which are no longer in use.
Currently we are only running half of the plant due to the low flow. This Facility discharges
into the Indian Creek, which is classified C water in the Catawba River Basin.
II. Performance
Summary of System Performance for calendar year 2021:
This Facility is well maintained and in good operational condition. Effluent from the
secondary clarifiers is of high quality with few suspended solids. The mixed liquor in the
aeration basin are mixed well and is maintained at a sufficient dissolved oxygen level for the
biological process to operate properly. The mixed liquor in the secondary clarifiers exhibits
Good settling characteristics. We drip feed 50% Caustic to maintain alkalinity when needed.
Records concerning instrument calibration and process control are being maintained in
accordance with NPDES Permit requirements.
The discharge monitoring reports (DMRs), chain -of -custody forms, and laboratory analyses
form are readily available for review in the facility's office. All records are complete and up-
to-date.
Overall, for the previous twelve (12) months this facility has performed well.
The Wastewater Plant is running smoothly and everything is in good working order.
We passed all of our quarterly toxicity testing and was within our permit limits on our
monthly DMR reports. We only received one Notice of Violation — NOV-2022-MV-0168.
The Notice of Violation was during the month of October 2022, we forgot to sample for our
monthly Total Nitrogen and Phosphorus sample. No fines have been issued and we responded
with a letter to NCDENR of correction action to assure this does not happen again.
2
We are currently in the process of renovating one of our oxidation ditches.
The screenings from both the bar screen and grit removal system are contracted by Berry's
Container Service LLC. The screenings are hauled to the Gaston County landfill.
Our land application is contracted by Synagro Central, LLC. We contact our Analytical and
Toxocity testing out to Meritech Lab, Inc. in Reidsville, NC.
The City of Cherryville is currently in the process of updating some of its sewer lines and the
water lines were updated as part of the approved 9.5 million dollar bond.
FLOW MEASUREMENT:
The effluent flow are being measured using an ultrasonic flow meter with a totalizer. Carolina
Technical Services, Inc. of China Grove, North Carolina calibrates the flow meter quarterly.
The contracted company (performing the meter calibration) should document a comparison of
an instantaneous flow measurement to the flow meter's recorded flow rate to verify that the
flow meter's accuracy is within 10% of the actual discharge.
A full and complete copy of The City of Cherryville Wastewater Treatment Plant's
"Performance Annual Report" will be posted on a prominent Bulletin Board located at the
City Hall of Cherryville and the Wastewater Treatment Plant.

Summary of system performance for 2021 fiscal year
The City of Cherryville system is in good shape with very few SSO's. We do have some
areas that are susceptible to heavy rain and other areas that may have an I/I problem we
are still looking to find. These areas result in few overflows.
