I. INTRODUCTION:
This laboratory was inspected to verify its compliance with the requirements of 15A NCAC 2H .0800 for
the analysis of environmental samples.
II. GENERAL COMMENTS:
The laboratory was clean and well organized. The facility has all the equipment necessary to perform the
analyses. Records were well organized and maintained according to the appropriate retention schedule.
Proficiency testing samples have been analyzed for all certified parameters for the 2010 proficiency
testing calendar year and the graded results were 100% acceptable.
This laboratory is currently certified only for the E. coli and Enterococci microbiological parameters.
The Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for these parameters were reviewed and appeared to
cover the required methodology and proper quality control (QC) protocols. This laboratory plans to
expand their certified parameter list to include field parameters, nutrients and metals in the near future.
The laboratory was given a packet containing North Carolina Laboratory Certification quality control
requirements and policies during the inspection.
III. FINDINGS, REQUIREMENTS, COMMENTS AND RECOMMENDATIONS:
No Findings were noted.
IV. PAPER TRAIL INVESTIGATION:
The paper trail consisted of comparing field testing records and lab reports being submitted to the
Wake County Human Services Environmental staff for January, February and March, 2011. There
were no transcription errors detected. It appears the facility is doing a good job transcribing data.
