3. RESEED/STABILIZE DISTURBED AREAS IMMEDIATELY AFTER FINISHED GRADES HAVE BEEN ACHIEVED. TEMPORARY VEGETATIVE COVER SHALL BE
PROVIDED OVER DISTURBED AREAS WHICH MAY NOT BE AT FINAL GRADE BUT WHICH WILL BE LEFT UNDISTURBED FOR AT LEAST 15 DAYS.
4. BEGIN SITE GRADING AND INSTALLATION OF ON -SITE SWALES AND STORM DRAINAGE PIPING SYSTEM.

with submerged roots. The function of vegetated deep pools areas is to slow flow

velocities and trap sediment, to absorb nutrients in the water column, improve oxidation
and create habitatfor wildlife and mosquito predators such as frogs, fish, and dragonfly
nymphs during dry times -
Shallow Walter - Shallow Water includes all areas that are inundated by the normal pool
to a depth up to 9 inches- This zone does became drier during periods of drought_
Shallow water zones, such as littoral shelves should be vegetated with emergent plants
and provide some of the best treatment zones in the wetland -
Shallow Land - The shallow land zone is the temporary storage volume portion of a Wet
Pond or Stormwater Wetland. The primary landscaping objectives for this zone are to
stabilize the slopes characteristic of this zone and optimize pollutant removal. Shallow
land zones should be planted with wetland vegetation capable of growing in alternating
dry and inundated conditions_
Upland - This zone extends above the maximum design water surface elevation (never
inundated) and often includes the outermost buffer of a pond or wetland. Plant selections
should be made based on soil condition, slope stability, light, ease of (maintenance, and
function within the landscape because little or no water inundation will occur_

Plant 'Placement
• The type of vegetation shall be restricted on dams and berms that impound water
either permanently or temporarily during storm events. This restriction does not
apply to cut slopes that form pond banks, only to the top, and front and back
embankment slopes of dams and berms_ Trees or woody shrubs shall not be planters
on water impounding dams and berms. This helps avoid channeling or piping of
impounded water along roots, damage to the integrity of dams and berms should
trees topple, and to enable inspection of the SCM. Only non -clumping turf grasses
shall be planted on water impounding darns and berms. Non -clumping turf grasses
allow for unobstructed visibility of dam and berm slopes for detecting potential) dam
safety problems such as animal burrows, slumping, sink holes, or fractures in the
berm and reduce the risk of erosion on embankments-
• Planting of trees and shrubs should not be located where they would adversely
impact inspection and maintenance access pathways, inlet or outlet pipes, or
manmade drainage structures such as spillways or flow spreaders. Species with
rots that seek water (e.g., willow and poplar), should be avoided within 5+0 feet of
pipes or manmade structures. This also allow for future inspection and
maintenance activities, and to avoid shading of areas intended to be maintained in
grass.
• All landscape material, including grass, should be planted in good topsoil_ Native
underlying soils may be suitable for planting if amended with sufficient quantities of
well -aged compost tilled into the subgrade. Compost used should meet
specifications for Grade A compost quality.
• Soil in which trees or shrubs are planted may need additional enrichment or
additional compost top -dressing depending on the results of soil analysis. Consult
a plant nursery, landscape professional, or arborist. for site -specific
recommendations-
• Evergreen trees and trees which produce relatively little leaf -fall are preferred in
areas draining to a detention device. Leaf litter has the potential to accumulate in
and around outlet devices, which can clog small weirs or orifices.
• Trees should be set back so that branches do not extend over the permanent pool of
a detention device (to prevent leaf -drop into the water and clogging issues)-
• Drought -tolerant species are recommended.

GENERALNOTES
1. ALL AREAS OF THE BOTTOM, SIDESLOPES AND EMBANKMENTS OF THE POND SHALL HAVE 4"
OF TOPSOIL AND COMPACTED IN A MANNER TO ENSURE VEGETATIVE GROWTH. AS SOON AS
THE SLOPES ARE CONSTRUCTED, IMMEDIATELY SEED AND STABILIZE WITH STRAW. WITHIN THE
FIRST 90 DAYS, CHECK SLOPES AFTER RAIN EVENTS FOR RUTTING AND SETTLING. STABILIZE AS
NEEDED WITH STABILIZATION MATTING (2-YEAR RATED).
2. IF THE POND IS CONSTRUCTED IN THE SUMMER OR EARLY FALL MONTHS, IT IS ADVISED TO
INSTALL SOD ON THE BOTTOM, SIDE SLOPES, AND DAM EMBANKMENTS TO ENSURE VEGETATIVE
COVERAGE AND STABILIZATION.
3. SHRUBS SHALL NOT BE PLANTED ON FILL EMBANKMENTS THAT IMPOUND WATER, AND SH,
NOT BE PLANTED WITHIN 10 FEET OF ANY STORM DRAINAGE STRUCTURE. A TURF GRASS MIX
WILL BE PROVIDED OVER ALL DISTURBED AREAS IN ACCORDANCE WITH SEEDING
SPECIFICATIONS.
4. POND PLANTS ARE SHOWN SCHEMATICALLY FOR RELATIVE PLACEMENT ABOVE/BELOW THE
MIDPOINT ON THE SHELF. REFER TO "PLANT LIST" CHART (THIS SHEET) FOR QUANTITIES.
DISTRIBUTE THE PLANTS THROUGHOUT, IN GROUPS OF 3 OR MORE.
5. CONTRACTOR TO PROVIDE OWNER WITH A 2-YEAR (MINIMUM) WARRANTY FOR PLANT
MA TE RIAL SURVIVAL/REPLACEMENT. AT THE END OF THE FIRST YEAR AND AGAIN AT THE END
OF THE TWO-YEAR WARRANTY PERIOD, ALL PLANTS THAT DO NOT SURVIVE MUST BE REPLACED.
STAKING MUST BE REMOVED AFTER ESTABLISHMENT (-12 MONTHS) TO PREVENT STRANGLING
OF PLANTS. PLAN FOR MINIMAL USE OF HERBACIDES, FERTILIZERS, PESTICIDES OR SOIL
AMENDMENTS. LANDSCAPE CONTRACTOR SHALL PROVIDE OWNER/ENGINEER WITH 'PLACE OF
ORIGIN' FOR ALL SPECIES, PRIOR TO ORDERING. MATERIAL SHOULD ORIGINATE WITHIN NORTH
CAROLINA, PREFERABLY WITHIN FORSYTH COUNTY OR A NEIGHBORING COUNTY.
MDC 11. VEGETATION.
The following criteria apply to vegetation in and around the wet pond:
(a) The dam structure, including front and back embankment slopes, of the pond shall be
vegetated with non-cllurmping turf grass; trees and woody shrubs shall not be @Ilowed ,
and
(b) The vegetated shelf shall be planted with a minimum of three diverse species of
herbaceous, native vegetation at a minimum density of 50 plants per 200 square feet of
shelf area.
