FMIE./.ILLE REG. OFFICE!
The Groundwater Section has reviewed the subject permit application. The system is
designed to treat and dispose of 10,000 GPD (gallons per day) at a loading rate of 0.6 gallons per
day per foot squared. The'system will consist of septic tanks at each camp building, a grease trap
will be added to the administration building where the kitchen is to be located, all collected into
one forcemain and pumped approximately 4500 feet southwest of the camp into a dosing
chamber with dual siphons which will dose two subsurface absorption fields with 2,800 feet of
lateral drainfield pipe and an application area of 16,666 squared feet. We recommend issuance
of the permit with the following conditions:
1. Any groundwater quality monitoring, as deemed necessary by the Division, shall be
provided.
2. The COMPLIANCE BOUNDARY for the disposal system is specified by
regulations in 15A NCAC 2L, Groundwater Classifications and Standards. The
Compliance Boundary for disposal systems constructed after December 31, 1983 is
established at the property boundary. An exceedance of Groundwater Quality
Standards at or beyond the Compliance Boundary is subject to immediate
remediation action in addition to the penalty provisions applicable under General
Statute 143-215.6A(a)(1).
3. In accordance with 15A NCAC 2L, a REVIEW BOUNDARY is established around
the disposal systems midway between the Compliance Boundary and the perimeter

Subsurface Disposal System, New Permit Application
GW95042 DEH95-06
Bladen County
The subject new permit application has been reviewed by the
FRO Groundwater Section.
In the permit application, it is stated that 10,000 gallons
per day will be generated by the subject facility. However, in the
"Soil Site Evaluations,Hydraulic Measurements and Mounding
Analysis" all of the calculations use 5,000 gallons per day. We
re -ran the calculations using 10,000 gpd, and it appears that the
system will still adequately handle the 10,000 gpd. I felt that
this significant difference in gallons per day generated needed to
be brought to your attention.
Theonly problem associated with the system is its close
proximity to the property line, and associated compliance and
review boundaries. It is likely that with any impact to the
groundwater--, a compliance boundary violation will also have
occurred. Despite this, the subsurface disposal system's location
has many positive aspects. There are no 'threatening receptors in
the anticipated direction of flow from the disposal field. The
disposal field is very remote to all threatening receptors except
the camp itself which is approximately 4,000 feet away. No
groundwater monitoring in necessaryfor this site at this time.
