Ballard: On March 29, 1999 the Division of Water Quality issued NPDES Permit No. NC0004685 to PPG Industries for their Shelby facility. In response to your request received April 6, 1999, the permit has been corrected to include weekly monitoring for BOD-, and NH;-N as was required in the previously issued permit. Please find enclosed an amended effluent limitations page for outfall 001. This page should be inserted into your permit and the old one discarded. All other terms and conditions contained in the original permit remain unchanged and in full effect. This permit correction is issued pursuant to the requirements of North Carolina General Statutes 143-215.1 and the Memorandum of Agreement between North Carolina and the U. S. As we discussed, PPG would like to request that the monitoring frequency for : OD and ammonia remain at weekly rather than change to daily in the new permit. Effluent ammonia averages are typically less than 0.5 m . I arid with a maximum of 5.8 mgll during the past four years. Effluent BOD has averaged to S mg/1 with a maximum of 22,7 mg/l, other that a one time upset condition. Additional eftlue monitoring does not appear to be needed Thank you for your consideration.
