I am closely involved with the Dugout Project and wanted to notify you and the rest of the applicable IRT of a minor update to our planting approach, and if for nothing else, to sustain transparency on project developments. RES will soon be conducting tree planting activities at the Dugout Mitigation Project (SAW-2018-01883). We are notifying you that we plan to incorporate additional tree species that were not listed in the approved mitigation plan. The additional species are specialty understory species that will only be planted in the "Supplemental Planting Area" which comprises about 1.51 acres. This planting zone correlates with the wetland enhancement approach for Wetland WD and stream enhancement approach for reaches TV1-A and TV5-A (See attached figure). Note this area has been cleared of and treated for Chinese privet and will be soon be planted with understory trees and shrubs while the mature trees are being left alone. This approach conforms to the approach stated in the approved mitigation plan. The selected species were chosen based on wetland -tolerance, shade -tolerance, and native range, and we believe this is an appropriate and desirable composition for this area. The following table presents the additional species and quantities that we anticipate planting in the area: Common Name Latin Name Quantity American hornbeam (Ironwood) Carpinus caroliniana 150 American Holly Ilex opaca 150 Swamp Bay Persea palustris 300 Sweet Bay Magnolia Magnolia virginiana 250 Sweet Pepperbush Clethra alnifolia 250 Spice Bush Lindera benzoin 250 Also, we have attached the original planting table for reference. Note, that the original list is still intended to be planted throughout the rest of the planting areas of the site. Please let us know if you approve of this approach and feel free to reach out with any questions or concerns or if you would like any additional information.
