The water quality results presented in this memorandum were utilized in the NPDES application in Section 4 and represent the expected discharge quality. SAMPLING EVENTS TO DATE 2018 Sample Collection SRK Consulting(SRK)conducted a preliminary sampling event in November 2018. During that event two pit lake samples were collected. The collected samples are described as: • Sampled from middle of the pit lake by boat, 10 cm below surface;and • Sampled from boat, near historic divide between two pit lake areas, recently overtopped as a result of recent rains, forming one mixed pit lake. A memorandum documenting the 2018 sampling event and results is included in Appendix A. 2022 Sample Collection SWCA Environmental Consultants(SWCA)began the collection of baseline water quality data of the Project pit lake in 2022; sample collection locations are displayed in Table 1 below. Water quality samples for PL-2,PL-5,and PL-8 were collected at depths of 10 feet,50 feet, and 80 feet. The deep pit lake sampling location was to the third quarter water quality sampling event;samples were collected at 80 feet, 100 feet, 120 feet, 140 feet, and 160 feet. The water samples were processed by ACZ Laboratories in Steamboat,Colorado. The third quarter water quality data is preliminary in nature. The laboratory results are attached in Appendix A. Field Parameters SWCA collected field parameter readings for the pit lake in four separate sampling events. The field parameters collected are temperature,pH,specific conductivity, and dissolved oxygen. Locations PL-2, PL-5,and PL-8 were sampled in 5-foot intervals in-situ from total depth to surface. These three locations were sampled in April 2022,May 2022,and September 2022.An additional pit lake sampling location, PL-DEEP,was added in September 2022 to assess the water quality in the deepest portion of the pit lake. PL-DEEP was sampled in 20-foot intervals using a flow-through cell. The field parameter results are included in Appendix B. Data Usage on Permit Application The laboratory and field parameter results from the pit lake samples presented in Appendices A and B were utilized to complete Section 4.Effluent Characteristics of the EPA Form 2E. Samantha Barnes from SRK Canada was on site at the Albemarle facilities on November 21 St and 22nd, 2018. The goal of the program was to collect water samples from water features across the historic working areas, including pit lakes, natural lakes, streams, or ponded areas.A total of 8 surface water samples were collected. The following memorandum summarizes the data collected during the sampling program. 2 Sampling Program 2.1 Sample Locations A total of 8 surface water samples were collected on site. Sample locations are presented as green dots in Figure 1. Three additional locations were visited, including GW Well#2 and Well#3, as well as the Pegmatite 25 Pond. Samples were not collected at these locations due to issues with access or equipment. <Author/Reviewer> KingsMountain_SamplingMemo_515800-020_11272018_sab.docx November 2018 SRK Consulting Page 2 467000 467500 468000 468500 •" • y .. i 7: , , . %VI : O •'fit ' 'i` I •;:.e,, •• • pr {"1 w' . Sample coordinates were collected using a handheld Garmin GPS and reflect metric UTM coordinates in Zone 17S. Data collected at each location are presented in Table 1. Sampling included collection of water in the following bottles for associated lab analysis: • 1 x 500 mL bottle for wet chemistry • 2 x 4L bottles and 1 x 1000 mL bottle for radiochemistry(total) • 1 x 250 mL bottle for total metals • 1 x 250 mL bottle for dissolved wet chemistry(filtering recommended) • 1 x 250 mL bottle for COD, TOC, Phenols and total wet chemistry Insufficient 4L jugs were provided to collect the radiochemistry samples for all locations. Samples KM_SW_01 through KM_SW_06 included the two 4L bottles for radiochemistry, while KM_SW_07 and KM_SW_08 do not include the 4L bottles, as denoted by the grey hatch in Table 1. Filtering of samples for dissolved wet chemistry bottles was achieved using a syringe and 0.45 pm filter. Filters were depleted after sampling KM_SW_01 through KM_SW_04, as denoted by the blue hatch cells in Table 1. All other sample locations did not receive filtering for the dissolved wet chemistry bottles. <Author/Reviewer> KingsMountain_SamplingMemo 515800-020_11272018_sab.docx November 2018 SRK Consulting Page 4 Table 1:Sample Summary Data Sample ID Date Time pH Temp ORP EC Easting Northing Description West Mine Middle Impoundment. sampled beside KM_SW_01 11/21/2018 9:20 6.7 10.4 140.8 139.8 467681 3897110 metal grated dock from shoreline.Water was clear, odorless. Depths to water were measured to be 31.4 ft and 14.1 ft, for GW#2 and GW#3 respectively. 2.3.2 Waterbodies Access to the Pegmatite 25 Pond included two sets of old steel staircases, which had not been maintained. Sampling of the pond was deemed unsafe due to the steep pit walls and old staircases. No sample was collected. The property boundary at the time of the site visit limited sampling on the south side of Highway 85 to the two sites. Nearby waterbodies noted from aerial imagery were not within the boundary area and were therefore not sampled. 3 Summary A total of eight surface water samples were collected over a two day period on site in November 2018. Future investigations should also target groundwater wells to evaluate baseline water quality in the groundwater.
