Dear Mr. Khan,
This letter is to notify the North Carolina Department of Environmental Quality Division of Energy, Mineral, and
Land Resources that Greenheck Fan Corporation at 1001 Commerce Center Drive in Shelby, North Carolina, has
exceeded the benchmark for zinc in the last four stormwater sampling events for outfall 002. The following is a
summary of the four samplings.
February 03, 2022 -- zinc 0.18 mg/I
April 05, 2022 -- zinc 0.66 mg/I
September 10, 2022 -- zinc 0.22 mg/I
October 31, 2022 -- zinc 0.26 mg/I, received results from the laboratory on December 5, 2022
As our Stormwater Plan requires, we have conducted several inspections to identify and evaluate possible causes
for exceedance. As a result of these inspections, we have added parking lot sweeping to our housekeeping
practices, changed the management of our scrap metal bins, and removed construction debris. As required, we
will conduct a stormwater management inspection and invite the Division to participate in this inspection.
We have begun creating an Action Plan with specific, feasible courses of action to reduce zinc concentrations.
This plan will not be limited to source controls, operational controls, or physical improvements and will be
submitted for the Division's Regional Office review and approval.
As part of our preparation, we request a conference call with the department to ensure we have completed a
comprehensive evaluation and can gather any thoughts you may have.
