Dear Mr. Taveras:
This letter is to inform you of certain permit changes related to stormwater management on the
following facilities:
NC0000353- Spruce Pine Facility
NC0000400- K-T Feldspar Corp - Spruce Pine
The wastewater discharge permits associated with the above facilities, currently in the renewal
process, will no longer include stormwater management elements. Stormwater management
requirements will be addressed through NCG020000 Industrial Stormwater permitting.
Also,NCG020274, the industrial stormwater permit, which covers the Pine Mountain mine as
well as the K-T Feldspar Corp - Spruce Pine facility, will no longer apply to the processing plant.
A separate NCG020000 will provide stormwater discharge coverage at the plant, once in place.
Modifications to your site plans and Stormwater Pollution Prevention Plans will be required to
reflect these changes.
This permitting modification should provide more efficient permitting, increased stormwater
management awareness and enhance program effectiveness.
Please see to the completion of a Notice of Intent(NOI) for each facility as soon as possible. The
NOI may be found here: http://portal.ncdenr.org/web/wq/ws/su/npdessw#tab-3. Current site
practices and procedures meeting the existing permit conditions should be continued until the
NCG020000 Certificates of Coverage have been delivered.
