This Work Plan presents a sequence of actions for the evaluation of remedial alternatives for the management of fluoride -impacted water associated with permitted Outfall 005. Upon completion of this work, a feasibility study will be submitted for approval to the North Carolina Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) that will present the preferred alternatives. Also included is the Hydrogeological Conceptual Site Model (HCSM) Update. The HCSM Update provides a framework for the results of the assessments and remedial efforts performed to date as well as the Work Plan scope. Many of the Work Plan actions are underway so that sufficient data are generated to achieve stated objectives. However, there are two elements that require DEQ approval: • BBP is seeking DEQ feedback before finalizing certain alternatives to be evaluated and will provide monthly progress reports and meet as needed to facilitate receipt of that feedback; • To assess a water treatment/management option, BBP is requesting permission to temporarily redirect water from Outfall 005 drainage basin to the Outfall 012 storm sewer to enable downstream assessment of changes in flow and fluoride concentrations in the storm sewer and at Outfall 005. This modification will be a temporary measure until sufficient design information is available for the bench -scale and pilot testing of treatment technologies. The water redirected to Outfall 012 drainage basin will comply with established permit discharge limits. Should you have any questions or comments, or desire to schedule a meeting to discuss the Work Plan, please contact Jason Mibroda of Alcoa at (412) 315-2783 at your convenience.
