Dear Mr. Boaze:
RE: Copy of application for Dillsboro Dam removal
Jackson County
DWQ # 2003-0179 version 6.0
Michael F. Easley, Governor
William G. Ross Jr., Secretary
North Carolina Depardnent of Environment and Natural Resources
Coleen H. Sullins, Director
Division of Water Quality
Thank you for your letter dated July 26, 2007 (received August 1, 2007) concerning the difficulties you
have experienced obtaining a copy of the application for the Dillsboro dam removal project. I am sorry that your
trip to Asheville to obtain a copy was not successful. I have enclosed a copy of the application on a CD since it
is so lengthy and will also mail a CD to Mike Decker, Town Administrator in the Town of Franklin as he
requested as well as to Kevin Barnett in our Asheville Regional Office so he has an electronic copy which can
be readily distributed. With respect to your more lengthy request of February 6, as you may know, we wrote to
Mr. Decker requesting clarification as to the request. In his letter of August 2, 2007, he stated that a CD of the
application should suffice (pending review of the application of course) so we believe that we have responded
to your February 6 letter adequately. Please advise if this is not the case.
As you know, we have planned to hold a public hearing for this project and will be sending out a formal
announcement to the local papers soon as well as to our 401 Certification mailing list. However the hearing
has been scheduled for September 25, 2007 from 6 to 10 pm at Western Carolina University in the Ramsey
Center although we do not have an exact room number yet.
Please contact me at 919-733-9646 if you have additional questions.
