~~}~OiQO The Federal Energy Regulatory Commission gave Duke Power the green light
last week to tear down the Dillsboro dam following athree-year waiting

W NC Caler~d,~lr The plan is not without opposition. Duke Power still needs state approval and
water quality permits that will dictate the terms of dam removal, and could
I~V~O~lrlti~~ll ~/C1aCBS face more hurdles if opposition moves into the legal arena.

dams date back to the 1960s and will soon expire.

In exchange for harnessing the public's waterways to make hydropower,

recreational measures.
