NORTH CAROLINA DIVISION OF WATER QUALITY
PUBLIC NOTICE is hereby given that Duke Energy from Charlotte, North Carolina, has applied to the North
Carolina Division of Water Quality for a Water Quality Certification pursuant to Section 401 of the Federal
Clean Water Act and Water Quality Commission rules in 15A NCAC 2H. 0500. The activity for this
Certification is sought to remove Dillsboro dam and powerhouse in Jackson County in accordance with a
Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) license. The application also refers to dredging of sand behind
the dam, stabilization of locations where vegetation is removed during the dredging as well as water quality and
biotic monitoring during the dredging and dam removal process.
The public is invited to comment on the above-mentioned application to the Division of Water Quality.
Comments shall be in writing and shall be received by the Division no later than August 15, 2007. Comments
should be sent to the N.C. Division of Water Quality, Non-Discharge Branch, 2321 Crabtree Boulevard,
Raleigh, NC 27604, Attn: John Dorney (919-733-9646 Fax: [phone]). A copy of the application is on file
at the Division office at 2090 US Highway 70, ro, North Carolina 28778 (Asheville Regional Office
fax [phone]) during normal business hours and ay be inspected by the public.
