Environmental Engineer DIVISION OF ENVIRONMENTAL MANAGEMENT WATER QUALITY SECTION ASHEVILLE REGIONAL OFFICE March 9, 1983 SUBJECT: Proposed Reclassification of French Broad River Over the past several months the Asheville Regional Office has discussed with both Permits and Wasteload Allocations Staff the proposed reclassifica- tion of the French Broad River to A -II and the effects this will have on dis- charge limitations of facilities in the sub -basin. In order to properly dis- cuss this matter at the public hearing on reclassification and with each point source a review of allocations is necessary. Please review the follow- ing facilities allocations with respect to the reclassification. The upper limit of reclassification is tentatively N.C. Highway 191 Bridge over the French Broad. It is already known that phenols will be an issue at Cranston Print Works. The Staff will be obtaining data on phenol dis- charges in the Basin from other major sources. Please provide this infor- mation as soon as possible. You may wish to discuss this with Lloyd Tyler with respect to the reclassification.
