In response to the written Notice of Violation referenced above, please accept this letter as an explanation of
what occurred and what action has been taken in response:
On April 21, 2022 the Town noticed and reported a wash -out to the NCDOT. A break in their storm drain
system had caused some of the road embankment to erode and this erosion exposed the existing sewer line,
the fiber line and the broken storm drain. As part of this report, photographs were taken and sent to the
NCDOT, to help illustrate the issue. These photographs are attached.
On October 19, 2022 surveyors, working on a sewer line improvement project, discovered and reported the
sewer break at the same spot where the Town had informed the NCDOT of the wash out condition. The
Town immediately called a local utility contractor that fixed the break, but also re-established the soil under
the pipe and "re -attached" the storm drain outlet. The repair occurred within four hours of discovery.
