Berry T.A.C., Inc 2200 East Bessemer Avenue Greensboro, North Carolina 27405 NORTH CAROLINA Environmental Quality November 30, 2022 SUBJECT: Compliance Evaluation Inspection NC General Wastewater Permit NCG510000 for Discharge of Wastewater from a Groundwater Remediation System Certificate of Coverage: NCG510240 for the Former Davis Auto, Graham, Alamance County, North Carolina Dear Mr. Berry: Mr. Jim Gonsiewski of the North Carolina Division of Water Resources (DWR), Winston-Salem Regional Office (WSRO), visited your facility on November 2, 2022 and met with Mr. Danny Oldham, Remediation Technician/Site Supervisor of Pyramid Environmental to perform a compliance evaluation inspection of your facility's groundwater remediation system. Details of that inspection are included on the attached EPA Water Compliance Inspection Report. The permit expired on September 30, 2020. At the time of the inspection, our records indicated that the annual fees for 2018 and 2020 have not been paid. The annual permit fee is $100 per year. Once this fee is paid, the permit will be automatically renewed. Please pay this permit fees and ensure in the future that the fees are paid in a timely manner. The following items were noted during the inspection: According to Mr. Oldham, the remediation system at the site operated intermittently between 1996 and April 2017 based on directives by the NCDEQ Underground Storage Tank (UST) section. Currently fourteen (14) monitoring wells are located on and off site. Additionally, three (3) recovery wells were installed on the site. The monitoring wells are sampled annually. The system effluent was last sampled on December 2, 2016. Laboratory analytical results for this sampling event indicated all analyzed constituents were below laboratory reporting limits. When running, the remediation system treated the groundwater with an air stripper. The remediation system and the building in which it is located appear to be in good condition. A gas station is currently operating at the site. Three aboveground storage tanks located on the site provide fuel for this station The outfall for the 2-inch PVC effluent pipe that transported treated water from the remediation system is located southwest of the site across NC Highway 54. This outfall empties into an agricultural field.
