2060 NC 42 East, Clayton; 16-inch sewer force main
Cause or Reason for the Upset/Spill/Bypass:
Sewer force main was hit by a utility contractor boring cable underground.
Describe the Repairs Made or Actions Taken:
The portion on the damaged main was removed and two hymax coupling with a four -foot piece of
replacement pipe was installed.

Action Taken to Contain Spill, Clean Up and Remediate the Site (if applicable):
A third -party environmental contractor was called in to make an assessment. Septic trucks were used to
cleaned up the area. We hauled a total of 25,100 gallons from the area. The environmental contractor then
Timed the affected area.
Action Taken or Proposed to be Taken to Prevent Occurrences:
Working with USIC to determine what was the issue with their locate.
Additional Comments About the Event:
This spill did not reach the Neuse River or surface water as it was contained in a low Tying area/natural levee.
