PROJECT DESCRIPTION
THE PROPOSED PROJECT WILL INSTALL A NEW GAS LINE CROSSING MILTON RD
FOR PIEDMONT NATURAL GAS. THE DISTURBED AREA IS APPROXIMATELY 0.68
ACRES.
EXISTING SITE CONDITIONS
THE SITE IS COMPRISED OF GRASSED RESIDENTIAL; EXISTING UTILITY
EASEMENTS; AND EXISTING ROAD R.O.W.
SCHEDULE
CONSTRUCTION OF THE PIPELINE IS SCHEDULED TO BEGIN AUGUST 2014 AND
BE COMPLETE BY NOVEMBER 2014.
EROSION AND SEDIMENT CONTROL NARRATIVE
THE EROSION AND SEDIMENT CONTROL MEASURES FOR THIS PROJECT
INVOLVE THE STRATEGIC PLACEMENT OF A VARIETY OF DEVICES INCLUDING:
• SILT FENCE
• TEMPORARY GRAVEL CONSTRUCTION ENTRANCE/EXIT
MOST OF THESE DEVICES ARE TO BE INSTALLED PRIOR TO CLEARING AND
GRADING. ALL EROSION AND SEDIMENT CONTROL DEVICES SHALL BE
PROPERLY MAINTAINED DURING ALL PHASES OF CONSTRUCTION UNTIL
CONSTRUCTION ACTIVITIES HAVE CEASED AND ALL DISTURBED AREA HAVE
BEEN STABILIZED. ADDITIONAL EROSION AND SEDIMENT CONTROL DEVICES
MAY BE REQUIRED DURING CONSTRUCTION. ALL TEMPORARY CONTROL
DEVICES SHALL BE REMOVED ONCE CONSTRUCTION IS COMPLETE AND THE
SITE IS STABILIZED. DUST CONTROL ON SITE SHALL BE KEPT WITHIN
ACCEPTABLE LIMITS BY SPRINKLING WITH WATER OR OTHER ACCEPTABLE
METHODS. THE CONTRACTOR IS RESPONSIBLE FOR THE CONTROL OF
SEDIMENT ON SITE. IF THE APPROVED EROSION AND SEDIMENTATION CONTROL
MEASURES PROVE INSUFFICIENT, THE CONTRACTOR MUST TAKE THOSE
ADDITIONAL STEPS NECESSARY TO STOP SEDIMENT FROM LEAVING THE SITE.
THE PIEDMONT SITE REPRESENTATIVE MAY ADJUST EPSC PLANS BASED ON
SITE CONDITIONS IN ACCORDANCE WITH BEST MANAGEMENT PRACTICES.
CONSTRUCTION SEQUENCE
1. OBTAIN PLAN APPROVAL AND PERMITS.
2. HOLD PRE -CONSTRUCTION CONFERENCE.
3. FLAG CONSTRUCTION LIMITS.
4. INSTALL EROSION CONTROL MEASURES.
5. BEGIN CLEARING.
6. REPLACE OR INSTALL REMAINING EROSION CONTROL MEASURES.
7. BEGIN INSTALLING PIPE.
8. COMPLETED AREA SHOULD BE SEEDED WITHIN 7 DAYS AFTER PIPE HAS
BEEN INSTALLED AND FINAL GRADING OR AS SOON AS PRACTICAL. ALL
DISTURBED AREA SHALL BE SEEDED WITHIN 14 DAYS AFTER WORK HAS
CEASED.
9. ALL DISTURBED AREA SHALL BE STABILIZED WITH SEED AND STRAW,
HYDROSEEDING, OR SOD.
10. REMOVE EROSION AND SEDIMENT CONTROLS FOLLOWING FINAL INSPECTION
AND SIGNOFF FROM LOCAL STORMWATER OR ENGINEERING
REPRESENTATIVE.
11. PROVIDE PERMANENT VEGETATION.
EROSION CONTROL DEVICE NOTES
1. ALL STREAM AND/OR WETLAND CROSSING LOCATIONS NOTED ON THE PLANS
ARE APPROXIMATE.
2. SEDIMENT TRAPS SHALL BE LOCATED A MINIMUM OF 20 FEET OUTSIDE
STREAMS AND WETLANDS.
3. SILT FENCE SHALL BE INSTALLED DOWN -GRADIENT OF THE CONSTRUCTION
AREA AS NOTED ON THE PLANS AND AS SHOWN IN THE DETAILS.
4. ANY FAILURE OF ANY EROSION CONTROL DEVICE TO FUNCTION AS INTENDED
FOR ANY REASON SHALL BE REPORTED TO THE ENGINEER IMMEDIATELY.
5. ADDITIONAL EROSION CONTROL DEVICES SHALL BE INSTALLED IMMEDIATELY
AFTER GROUND DISTURBANCE OCCURS. THE LOCATION OF SOME OF THE
EROSION CONTROL DEVICES MAY HAVE TO BE ALTERED FROM THAT SHOWN
ON THE PLANS IF DRAINAGE PATTERNS DURING CONSTRUCTION ARE
DIFFERENT FROM THE FINAL PROPOSED DRAINAGE PATTERNS. IT IS THE
CONTRACTORS RESPONSIBILITY TO ACCOMPLISH EROSION CONTROL FOR
ALL DRAINAGE PATTERNS CREATED AT VARIOUS STAGES DURING
CONSTRUCTION.
6. BUFFER DISTURBANCES AS NOTED ON THE PLANS SHALL BE SEEDED AT A
RATE OF 20 GALLONS PER 100 L.F. OF BUFFER DISTURBANCE USING THE
FOLLOWING MIX: KENTUCKY 31 FESCUE (55%), ENGLISH RYE (20%), KOREAN
LESPEDEZA (15%), GERMAN MILLET (10%).
7. HYDROSEEDING OR CURLEX (OR APPROVED EQUAL) IS REQUIRED FOR FINAL
STABILIZATION ON STEEP SLOPES.
MAINTENANCE
1. ALL SEDIMENT AND EROSION CONTROL DEVICES INCLUDING PLANTED AREAS
SHALL BE INSPECTED AT LEAST ONCE PER WEEK AND WITHIN 24 HOURS
AFTER ANY STORM EVENT GREATER THAN A HALF INCH(DURING A 24 HOUR
PERIOD). DAMAGED OR INEFFECTIVE DEVICES SHALL BE REPAIRED OR
REPLACED AS NECESSARY BY THE END OF THE DAY.
2. CLEAN SILT BARRIERS WHEN THEY ARE APPROXIMATELY 50% OBSTRUCTED
BY SEDIMENT OR AS DIRECTED BY THE OWNER'S REPRESENTATIVE.
GENERAL NOTES
1. THE CONTRACTOR IS RESPONSIBLE FOR IMPLEMENTATION AND
MAINTENANCE OF ALL EROSION AND SEDIMENT CONTROL DEVICES.

5. CONTRACTOR SHALL REGULARLY SWEEP SITE TO AVOID TRANSPORTING
SILT OR SEDIMENT FROM SITE.
6. STREAM AND WETLANDS, IF PRESENT, SHALL BE RETURNED TO ORIGINAL
GRADE UPON COMPLETION OF CONSTRUCTION.
7. SILT FENCE SHALL REMAIN OR BE INSTALLED ALONG STREAMS FOLLOWING
PIPELINE INSTALLATION AND FINAL GRADING UNTIL THE AREA IS STABILIZED.
8. ADDITIONAL MEASURES MAY BE NECESSARY TO PROTECT AREA STREAM
AND/OR WETLANDS IF PRESENT.

EXISTING SITE CONDITIONS
THE SITE IS COMPRISED OF GRASSED RESIDENTIAL; EXISTING UTILITY
EASEMENTS; AND EXISTING ROAD R.O.W.
SCHEDULE
CONSTRUCTION OF THE PIPELINE IS SCHEDULED TO BEGIN AUGUST 2014 AND
BE COMPLETE BY NOVEMBER 2014.
EROSION AND SEDIMENT CONTROL NARRATIVE
THE EROSION AND SEDIMENT CONTROL MEASURES FOR THIS PROJECT
INVOLVE THE STRATEGIC PLACEMENT OF A VARIETY OF DEVICES INCLUDING:
• SILT FENCE
• TEMPORARY GRAVEL CONSTRUCTION ENTRANCE/EXIT
MOST OF THESE DEVICES ARE TO BE INSTALLED PRIOR TO CLEARING AND
GRADING. ALL EROSION AND SEDIMENT CONTROL DEVICES SHALL BE
PROPERLY MAINTAINED DURING ALL PHASES OF CONSTRUCTION UNTIL
CONSTRUCTION ACTIVITIES HAVE CEASED AND ALL DISTURBED AREA HAVE
BEEN STABILIZED. ADDITIONAL EROSION AND SEDIMENT CONTROL DEVICES
MAY BE REQUIRED DURING CONSTRUCTION. ALL TEMPORARY CONTROL
DEVICES SHALL BE REMOVED ONCE CONSTRUCTION IS COMPLETE AND THE
SITE IS STABILIZED. DUST CONTROL ON SITE SHALL BE KEPT WITHIN
ACCEPTABLE LIMITS BY SPRINKLING WITH WATER OR OTHER ACCEPTABLE
METHODS. THE CONTRACTOR IS RESPONSIBLE FOR THE CONTROL OF
SEDIMENT ON SITE. IF THE APPROVED EROSION AND SEDIMENTATION CONTROL
MEASURES PROVE INSUFFICIENT, THE CONTRACTOR MUST TAKE THOSE
ADDITIONAL STEPS NECESSARY TO STOP SEDIMENT FROM LEAVING THE SITE.
THE PIEDMONT SITE REPRESENTATIVE MAY ADJUST EPSC PLANS BASED ON
SITE CONDITIONS IN ACCORDANCE WITH BEST MANAGEMENT PRACTICES.
CONSTRUCTION SEQUENCE
1. OBTAIN PLAN APPROVAL AND PERMITS.
2. HOLD PRE -CONSTRUCTION CONFERENCE.
3. FLAG CONSTRUCTION LIMITS.
4. INSTALL EROSION CONTROL MEASURES.
5. BEGIN CLEARING.
6. REPLACE OR INSTALL REMAINING EROSION CONTROL MEASURES.
7. BEGIN INSTALLING PIPE.
8. COMPLETED AREA SHOULD BE SEEDED WITHIN 7 DAYS AFTER PIPE HAS
BEEN INSTALLED AND FINAL GRADING OR AS SOON AS PRACTICAL. ALL
DISTURBED AREA SHALL BE SEEDED WITHIN 14 DAYS AFTER WORK HAS
CEASED.
9. ALL DISTURBED AREA SHALL BE STABILIZED WITH SEED AND STRAW,
HYDROSEEDING, OR SOD.
10. REMOVE EROSION AND SEDIMENT CONTROLS FOLLOWING FINAL INSPECTION
AND SIGNOFF FROM LOCAL STORMWATER OR ENGINEERING
REPRESENTATIVE.
11. PROVIDE PERMANENT VEGETATION.
EROSION CONTROL DEVICE NOTES
1. ALL STREAM AND/OR WETLAND CROSSING LOCATIONS NOTED ON THE PLANS
ARE APPROXIMATE.
2. SEDIMENT TRAPS SHALL BE LOCATED A MINIMUM OF 20 FEET OUTSIDE
STREAMS AND WETLANDS.
3. SILT FENCE SHALL BE INSTALLED DOWN -GRADIENT OF THE CONSTRUCTION
AREA AS NOTED ON THE PLANS AND AS SHOWN IN THE DETAILS.
4. ANY FAILURE OF ANY EROSION CONTROL DEVICE TO FUNCTION AS INTENDED
FOR ANY REASON SHALL BE REPORTED TO THE ENGINEER IMMEDIATELY.
5. ADDITIONAL EROSION CONTROL DEVICES SHALL BE INSTALLED IMMEDIATELY
AFTER GROUND DISTURBANCE OCCURS. THE LOCATION OF SOME OF THE
EROSION CONTROL DEVICES MAY HAVE TO BE ALTERED FROM THAT SHOWN
ON THE PLANS IF DRAINAGE PATTERNS DURING CONSTRUCTION ARE
DIFFERENT FROM THE FINAL PROPOSED DRAINAGE PATTERNS. IT IS THE
CONTRACTORS RESPONSIBILITY TO ACCOMPLISH EROSION CONTROL FOR
ALL DRAINAGE PATTERNS CREATED AT VARIOUS STAGES DURING
CONSTRUCTION.
6. BUFFER DISTURBANCES AS NOTED ON THE PLANS SHALL BE SEEDED AT A
RATE OF 20 GALLONS PER 100 L.F. OF BUFFER DISTURBANCE USING THE
FOLLOWING MIX: KENTUCKY 31 FESCUE (55%), ENGLISH RYE (20%), KOREAN
LESPEDEZA (15%), GERMAN MILLET (10%).
7. HYDROSEEDING OR CURLEX (OR APPROVED EQUAL) IS REQUIRED FOR FINAL
STABILIZATION ON STEEP SLOPES.
MAINTENANCE
1. ALL SEDIMENT AND EROSION CONTROL DEVICES INCLUDING PLANTED AREAS
SHALL BE INSPECTED AT LEAST ONCE PER WEEK AND WITHIN 24 HOURS
AFTER ANY STORM EVENT GREATER THAN A HALF INCH(DURING A 24 HOUR
PERIOD). DAMAGED OR INEFFECTIVE DEVICES SHALL BE REPAIRED OR
REPLACED AS NECESSARY BY THE END OF THE DAY.
2. CLEAN SILT BARRIERS WHEN THEY ARE APPROXIMATELY 50% OBSTRUCTED
BY SEDIMENT OR AS DIRECTED BY THE OWNER'S REPRESENTATIVE.
GENERAL NOTES
1. THE CONTRACTOR IS RESPONSIBLE FOR IMPLEMENTATION AND
