I agree some additional measures (wattles and flocculant treatment) will hopefully help settle the suspended particles. If you wouldn’t mind providing an updated turbidity reading in the next couple of days. The borrow pit discharge is clear right now as the contractor has gotten down to the sandy layers. The culprit is a skimmer basin around L1 Northern STA 850+90. The inlet of the basin was overwhelmed by yesterday’s rain event, even though the rain was reported less than an inch. Currently we have turbid discharge in the JS downstream of the skimmer basin which had a reading of 171.6 NTUs. The contractor is going repair the inlet of the skimmer basin and clean out built up sediment. We also discussed installing some wattles with flocculant in the flow patterns leading to the inlet pipe. We are looking at other ways to treat the surface runoff with flocculant prior the basin entrance. The runoff is coming from the recently placed material from the borrow pit that is composed of extremely fine organic particles, so chemical treatment with flocculant is really the only way to settle out these suspended particles. The pipe will be installed in this section of the JS in the coming week or two and the fill material will soon be capped with more sandy material that is currently being excavating from borrow pit ‘G’. We will keep you updated with the repairs to the basin and turbidity readings until this clears up. Please feel free to reply with any questions or recommendations.
