Any clams encountered during dredging should . • be relocated. Marine Patrol should be notified in advance of . - contact me for a contact person. Looking at both the originally requested dredge footprint, the initial permit issued for the dredging once agency comments were made and the footprint scaled back, the original major modification request, as well as the newly scaled back proposal. I don't have an update as of right now, but have taken it to Doug Huggett and we are working on a decision. Sorry I don't have more information for you now, but I will as soon ?.s possible. I would like to say I will have something for you on Monday, but I am not sure that will be the case. Doug ?.nd Braxton are heading to Raleigh together on Monday, so I hope they will have time to discuss on their trip. Even if the existing shellfish were relocated, this location would still be a valuable shellfish habitat to which dredging would cause a significant adverse impact. For these reasons, I will continue to oppose dredging in this area. Feel free to call me if you have any additional questions. This area is considered to be significant shellfish resource (greater than one shellfish per square meter). Also, I do not believe that relay (shellfish transplant to a shellfish lease) is allowed from this area. I am reviewing the file and in discussion with DMF shellfish biologists and Marine Patrol regarding any other options ?.vailable for this project.
