Typically in a doghouse MH we require that the invert of inlet pipe match crown of outlet pipe per CORPUD detail S -22. In
this case we allowed the crown of inlet pipe to be lowered to match crown of outlet pipe to maximize depth under the
creek crossing. We are not comfortable lowering the invert any more due to hydraulics associated with major
interceptors.
To clarify the private pump service option:
This was not meant instead of the standard gravity sewer extension requirements to your property, & I am not referring
to a conventional public or private PS / SSFM design that has to be permitted through our office; also the new CORSSE
cannot be used for a private service connection of any sort - as opposed to extending the public main.
I threw this option on the table just in case you found that you were able to extend a gravity sewer main along Forestville
Road to your site, but then perhaps be unable to connect to it via standard gravity service due to natural topography or
grading on your site. In this case you could simply install a small private sump pump & force a service connection to the
last upstream MH in your street frontage - all work falling under the purview of plumbing rather than site utilities. This
whole scenario very well may not apply to your project at all, but at the same time I did not want to rule it out in case the
field survey worked out this way. If you determine that the site can be served in this way (versus a sub - standard aerial
creek crossing), we may reconsider what the sewer extension & easement dedication requirements to adjacent properties
will be - depending on the best information available to us at the time.

Thanks for your email. We have ordered the surveying shots on the existing creek and will overlay it on our current
design to see exactly what has been changed and the exact exposure of the encasing over the creekbed. Will keep you
posted.

I have discussed the new stream crossing with Manager of Plans Review group & Assistant Utility Director over all land
development. The original design was less than ideal but we felt the slight exposure was an acceptable risk. However an
aerial crossing below Q25 does not meet min state criteria for gravity sewer & presents us with major concerns regarding
stream blockage & associated ongoing maintenance & repair issues. For now, you are not authorized to construct the new
stream crossing pending a more thorough investigation of all design alternatives - to include the following:

The construction is underway with the doghouse MH. No crossing yet. The contractor is Sienkwicz Contracting; he's
copied here. I don't have the inspector contact.
I don't have the new survey of the creek profile, but based on the contactor's field staking working back from the
I've advised the contractor to stay put for now. Please advise.
Thanks.

Hy, this change could change the status of your utility approval.
Typically for creek crossings we require the invert of steel casing to be 1.0' above Q25 - or the crown of DIP carrier pipe
to be 1.0' under the creek bed. We allowed a slight exposure of the casing in the previous approval given the depth of
sewer you are trying to connect to. Now the crossing is entirely (but barely) aerial, & without pier foundations - which is a
huge concern to the city with regard to stream clogging & associated maintenance / repairs.
Can you provide an overlay (profile exhibit) of the approved design with new field survey cross section? What is the
status of construction & who is your inspector? I am not saying that your approval will necessarily be rescinded, but I am
saying that I need to discuss this change with staff for a consensus on what we can & cannot live with. Meantime I'd
suggest that your contractor please stop work until this issue is resolved - thanks.
