Copper Exceedance for SW Outfall # 009 for October 2022 CAUTION: External email. Do not click links or open attachments unless you verify. Send all suspicious email as an attachment to Report Spam. Jeffrey, Bethany, and Brittany, Per the general permit for CommScope, Inc. (NCG030000) Catawba Facility (under COC NCG030078), sampling was completed on the following ROS Outfalls for the site on October 12t", 2022 with a rainfall event totaling 0.91" of rain. As of the letter that CommScope, Inc. received from Zahid Kahn with NCDEQ in June 2022 for their outfall monitoring, they are now only sampling the following sites: 008 outfall, 009 outfall, and the pond (as all the other outfalls pretty much end up at the pond). Results were received from the laboratory (Statesville Analytical, Inc.) on Wednesday, October 26t", 2022. For this event, there was only one outfall that exceeded one benchmark value for copper: 1) Outfall 009 - Copper result was 0.015 mg/L - exceeded benchmark of 0.010 mg/L by just a small amount (however have a small residual from the bucket which provides further details for the exceedance) 2) Samples were also collected in a bucket outside the WWTP laboratory building for the site and the following was noted for metals (no exceedances): a. Copper: 0.003 mg/L (Was less than benchmark of 0.010 mg/L but is a contributing factor....) b. Lead: <0.0005 mg/L (Non -detect) c. Zinc: <0.01 mg/L (Non -detect) Please note that these exceedances will be documented in the SWPPP, and corrective action steps will be implemented to reduce these exceedances. Furthermore, best management practices will be utilized to assist with reductions for these parameters exceeding their respective benchmark values. Now, for this exceedance, we have entered Tier 1 monitoring and must continue to sample quantitative results monthly (along with qualitative - visual). We will aim to sample for the next 3 months (November and December 2022 and January 2023) to receive limits below the benchmark to attain quarterly sampling. Please let me know if you need anything further, and hope you all have a very blessed day and Veteran's Day. Thank you for your assistance with this matter.
