We are receiving our Land Disturbance and mining permit for this project any day now. They are OK with the 25 feet buffer. We have added 10 feet to it so equipment can access the excavation area. This 10 foot area is shown as disturbed. Understand there will be no dewatering. Excavation will be with pans and dozers down to groundwater, and with drag lines from there down. Any stockpiling will be in the excavation areas, as per our forthcoming land disturbance and mining permit. Groundwater will remain in the excavation at essentially the same elevation as it is now in those areas - it will just be open to the atmosphere. Other than the crossings, we do not plan any work that will affect the wetlands or its hydrogeology. We feel the 25 feet buffer plus the 10 feet maintenance area will. be more than adequate to avoid any impacts to the wetlands. We do not recommend any change in the plans at this late date. Please call Kristen Hickland, if you feel necessary. 2. The crossings will be at existing grade. There will be no roads installed. The equipment and dump trucks will drive at existing grade over the crossing areas. Mats will be used if needed to keep them from getting stuck. Silt fence will border the crossings. After the project is done, the crossings will be leveled back only to the extent necessary to remove ruts. Mats and silt fence will be removed. This has been conveyed to Henry Wicker some time ago and he was OK-with it. We do not need culverts out there and do not want to install them. We feel culverts will disturb the wetlands more than necessary anyway. Based on this, we are not adding the CRISER TROUTMAN TANNER CONSULTING ENGINEERS WILMINGTON, NC RALEIGH, NC 2840 Plaza Place, Suite 103 Raleigh, NC 27612 ' p 919.277.0494 f 919.277.0495 cttengineering.com Ms. Noelle Lutheran August 25, 2006 Page2of2 requested cross section or pipe. We assume this means we do not need monitoring wells and we assume this means we do not need an operation and maintenance plan.
