I’d like to see them get their meter working for future issues. I know you sent then some calibration instructions so hopefully they can get it fixed. I don’t think they ever did get their turbidity meter working, but is sounds like things have cleared up considerably. They were no longer pumping water out of the culvert area today. They had the bottom of the wing wall and culvert poured. The additional erosion control devices they added on Tuesday significantly helped with the turbidity problem. You can see their new set up in the "silt bag" picture. In addition to the extra wattles, they also put a floc bloc (I hope I spelled that right) inside the silt bag. The water coming out of the silt bag as well as the standing water still in the wetlands was clear; the sediment had settled out. One of the contractors showed me a video of the water coming out of the silt bag while they were pumping, and it looked clear then too. If you would like to see the video, we could probably get it from Kelly or Mike. The water was also not flowing into the stream anymore. Upstream of the original entry point still looked a little turbid, though not nearly as turbid as before. This may be due to the slow flow/back up of the water I mentioned in my last email. Downstream, where there was more flow, looked clear. Unfortunately, I cannot find the picture I took of the actual stream, but parts of it can be seen in photos 3517 on the right and 3518 in the bottom left. There was still a fine layer of the sediment where the turbid water had been running through the wetlands originally. Kelly plans on having them go in there with rakes and shovels to try to scrape some of it up. The layer of sediment throughout the wetlands was a couple millimeters at its thickest. I told him they have to be careful not to over-excavate and to give us a call if they have any questions. Let me know if you have any questions!
